He was first admitted to the isolation ward of Natore General Hospital
A court has granted bail to a jail inmate in Natore on suspicion of Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus, infection.
The inmate, Osman Goni, was first admitted to the Natore General Hospital isolation ward and later transferred to Dhaka on Monday to test for Covid-19 and for better treatment.
The hospitals Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Rasel and Civil Surgeon Dr Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Natore Jail Super Abdul Barek said due to a suspicion of having the coronavirus, Osman Goni was granted bail on Sunday.
Court Inspector Aminur Rahman said a bail petition was filed by the inmate’s family members, following which Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mamunur Rashid granted the bail.
Superintendent of Police Liton Kumar Saha said after receiving the bail papers, the health department took necessary steps to provide him with treatment.
The fast spreading Covid-19 has claimed more than 14,600 lives and infected over 337,000 globally, according to Worldometer.
In Bangladesh, 27 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and three deaths have been reported till date, however, IEDCR is yet to brief on the recent death.
