A Kuwait returnee has been fined Tk10,000 on Sunday for violating quarantine rules in Kawkhali of Pirojpur.
The returnee Shahin Hossain is from Talukderhat village in Shialkhathi union under Kawkhali upazila.
Local representatives informed the authorities after seeing him roaming around in the markets, despite being instructed to stay in home quarantine following his return from Kuwait on March 13.
He was then detained and was fined Tk10,000 on Sunday evening.
Kawkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mosammad Khaleda Khatun confirmed the matter and said, when she went to his house on Sunday, rather than being in room quarantine, Shahin himself opened the door to his house while his wife and children were also nearby.
She also said that now Shahin has been kept in ME Primary School, an official quarantine zone in Chirapara union of the upazila.
