Six to spend life in prison for gang-rape: A Sirajganj court on Thursday sentenced six people to life imprisonment in a 2016 rape case. Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Fazle Khoda Nazir delivered the verdict and also fined them Tk1 lakh each. The court further ordered the deputy commissioner to sell properties of the convicts and transfer the money to the rape survivor, confirmed Special Public Prosecutor Sheikh Abdul Hamid.

Man kills wife over 'extra marital affair': A man reportedly killed his wife in Dimla, Nilphamari, out of his suspicion of her extra marital affairs. The accused, Mofazzal Hossain, 38, allegedly broke into her room secretly Wednesday night and stabbed his wife, Mohsena Begum, 35 to death, leaving a note leading to the motive of the murder, said Dimla police OC Mofiz Uddin Sheikh. "An autopsy has been done and a murder case has been filed," the OC said.

Rape convict arrested from Khulna: Police arrested a convicted rapist from Khulna's Senhati on Wednesday. The convict Imam Hossain Kodor, 55, a resident of Gopalganj, abducted and raped a woman in Faridpur on January 26, 2006. Afterwards Faridpur Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal in 2019 found him guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in jail in absentia as he was absconding. 10 injured in Tabligh Jamaat factional clash in N'ganj: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Tabligh Jamaat in Narayanganj on Tuesday. Supporters of Indian preacher Maulana Saad Kandhalvi and followers of Maulana Jubayer locked in the clash at Tarabo area of Rupganj upazila, where brickbats were hurled, and chase and counter chase took place. Police brought the situation under control, said Rupganj police station OC Mahmudul Hasan.

Absconding man arrested for swindling crores of taka: Police arrested a suspected criminal from Dhaka, who is accused in 37 cases in Gurudaspur, Natore. The accused Saben Ali, 46, was arrested on Wednesday, confirmed Gurudaspur police station OC Mozaharul Islam. According to cases filed by various plaintiffs, the accused reportedly swindled about Tk15 to 20 crore when he ran a rice business seven years ago. He was hiding in Dhaka for three years.

Two arrested with marijuana in Natore: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday arrested two people with 66 kgs of marijuana in Natore. The arrested are Suman Islam, 19, and Anwar Hossain Dulal, 22. Acting Company Commander Jamil Ahmed of RAB, said acting on a tip-off they conducted a drive at Haghuria area of Sadar upazila on Wednesday evening and arrested the accused. He added that a case was filed in connection with the incident.

Man stabbed to death in Jessore: A man was stabbed to death by his rivals reportedly out of previous enmity in Jessore town. The deceased Munna, 28, was stabbed in front of a tea stall in the Churipotti area on Wednesday, reports UNB. Sadekul Islam, elder brother of the deceased, said Munna helped police in the arrest of 3 to 4 people, that prompted the rivals to kill him. Tawhidul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police said the actual reason of the killing could be ascertained after an investigation.
