The 84th birth anniversary of Bir Shreshtha Nur Mohammad, one of the most valiant heroes of the 1971 Liberation War, was observed in a befitting manner on Wednesday at Nur Mohammad Nagar under Chandibarpur union in Narail Sadar upazila.
Bir Shreshtha Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust and Narail district administration held various programs marking his birth anniversary.
The day began with qurankhani (recitation of quran) at Nur Mohammad’s home in the morning.
Floral wreaths were placed at his grave on behalf of Muktijoddha Command Council, Deputy Commissioner of Narail district, and Narail Superintendent of police followed by a rally.
Later dua mahfil and discussion meeting was held at Bir Shreshtha Nur Mohammad Memorial Museum and Library auditorium.
Narail Deputy Commissioner AnjumanAra, who is also the president of the Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust, was present in the program as the chief guest.
Nur Mohammad was born on February 26, 1936 at Mahiskhola Village under SadarUpazila of Narail district.
He joined the then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR), now Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on February 26, 1959.
Later, he joined the country`s Liberation War in 1971. Pakistan army killed him on September 5, 1971 at Goalhati, Jessore.
