A Tangail court on Sunday sentenced a man and three others to death for their involvement in the murder of his father in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail seven years ago.
Tangail Additional District and Sessions Judge Farhana Ferdous handed down the verdict on Sunday.
The convicts are Lukim Uddin, 40, Abdul Mannan, 40, Jahurul Islam, 55, and victim’s son Asaduzzman Miah, 42. Each of them were also fined Tk20,000.
All of the convicts remain fugitive.
According to the case statement, victim Abdul Awal, 70, was murdered by the convicts on June 30, 2013.
Later his son Asaduzzaman filed a case with Mirzapur police station to keep himself above suspicion.
However, during police investigation, it was discovered that Asaduzzman himself was involved in the murder.
When police detained him for questioning he confessed, saying that he, along with the other convicts, killed Abdul Awal over land dispute.
Later, Mirzapur police station’s then SI Shyamol Kumar Dutta filed a case.
Tangail Public Prosecutor (PP) S Akbar Khan said: “This verdict proves that nobody can escape justice.”
Additional PP Mohsin Shikdar represented the state and Adv Azhar Hossain stood for the defence.
