Child rape suspect killed in C'nawabganj ‘gunfight’
Five suspects of different crimes were killed in reported gunfights between Friday and Thursday evening.
In Comilla, two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with the police near the Palpari Bridge area under Adarsha Sadar upazila on Friday.
The deceased are Md Emon, 40, and Mohammad Jahangir, 28, of the same upazila.
Comilla Detective Branch (DB) Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Porimol Chandra Das said: "Acting on a tip-off, we along with members of Kotwali police station went to the Palpari Bridge area.
Robbers opened fire on police forcing them to fire back in self defence that killed the robbers, said SI Porimol.
A firearm, five rounds of bullet shells, two machetes, a knife, and a wire cutter were recovered from the spot.
In Narayanganj, an unidentified man was killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) near the Kalni area on the Dhaka Bypass Highway early Friday.
RAB-1 CPC-3 Camp Company Commander Major Abdullah Al Mehedi said: "RAB-1 set up a check post early Friday after being informed that a car loaded with a huge amount of contraband drugs will head towards Gazipur."
Three men from a car opened fire around 3am as RAB signalled them to stop, prompting the RAB to fire back in self defence that killed one while the other two escaped, added Major Abdullah.
RAB recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines, six round of bullets, 296 bottles of phensedyl and five kgs of marijuana from the spot.
In Cox's Bazar, a man, accused in narcotics and human trafficking cases, was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Hariakhali area near marine drive road in Teknaf early Friday.
The deceased Mozaher Ahmad is a listed drug dealer and a member of a human-trafficking gang, said Teknaf police station OC Pradip Kumar Das.
He said: "Acting on a tip-off police conducted a drive at the Hariakhali area of Subrang union. Seeing the police force, a drug dealing gang open fired as police fired back in self defence."
Police recovered a locally made rifle, three bullets and 5,000 yaba pills from the spot. Injured Mozaher was declared dead at a hospital, added OC Pradip.
Child rape suspect killed in Chapainawabganj ‘gunfight’
The prime suspect, accused in a case filed for raping and killing of a seven-year-old girl, was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Harishpur Natunpara area of Sadar upazila on Thursday.
The deceased Tariqul alias Saddam, 38, was fleeing to India through Bakchar border, when a DB team arrested him from the area around 6pm, said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fazal-e-Khuda.
Tariqul's associates opened fire on police triggering a gunfight at Harishpur Natunpara area, where police had gone to arrest two other accused, added the ASP.
On Monday, Rima, daughter of Ruhul Amin of Manik Hazir Tola village, Sadar upazila went missing after she went out to play. Rima was found dead in a village bamboo orchard on Tuesday.
