According to Banshkhali police, the two trawlers sank at 9:30am and 3:00pm
Four people, including a child and an Omani expatriate, died after two trawlers carrying Muslim devotees sank at the Banshkhali channel of the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday.
Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Momena Akhter confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
According to Banshkhali police, the two trawlers sank at 9:30am and 3:00pm.
The deceased were identified as Md Akkas, an Omani expatriate, Md Minhaj, 10, Abdul Malek and Abdul Jalil, 32.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali police station said that the two trawlers were heading for Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar when the incident happened.
“The trawlers were carrying devotees going to an Orus at Kutubdia Darbar Sharif. One trawler capsized as it was overcrowded, while the other sank due to rough sea,” said the OC.
