Rohingya woman killed in Cox’s Bazar camp

A Rohingya woman was killed while trying to settle a dispute between two other women in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Noor Nahar, 40, wife of Noor Alam, and a resident of Leda Rohingya camp in Hnila union.

Quoting witnesses, Teknaf Police Station OC Pradip Kumar Das said a fight broke out between Ferdousi, 25, and Al Morijan, 33, daughters of Md Amin from room no. 5, and Rukhiya, wife of Faruk from room no. 7 of the camp around 10am. 

When Noor Nahar tried to settle the dispute as an impartial party, she accidently received a severe blow on her shoulder.

Locals rescued her and took her to  the International Organization for Migration (IOM) healthcare centre, where the doctors declared her dead.

Meanwhile, Ferdousi and Al Morijan were also taken to the healthcare centre, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

The OC added that police recovered the body from the camp and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
