Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin says he is a victim of ill-motivated politics and conspiracy, after failing to secure the party nomination for the upcoming city polls.
Nasir made the comments speaking at a views exchange meeting at the Chittagong Press Club on Tuesday.
"I am a victim of ill-motivated politics and conspiracy. It is a matter of great sorrow as I did politics against those who killed Bangabandhu by risking my own life. The mayoral post is not a big deal for me. I have always given the utmost priority to politics," said Nasir.
"If someone had come up to me and said that I need to step down from the mayoral post, I would have willingly done that. What is the use of such false and fabricated campaigns against me?
"It is the party which will be the most affected by all this," he added.
"It took many years to make one AJM Nasir. We are tried and tested Awami League activists and we do not need to prove it again," Nasir said.
Earlier on Monday, Nasir said he would try his level best to ensure victory for Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, the Awami League nominated candidate for the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections on March 29.
Speaking to journalists in front of his Anderkilla residence in the city, Nasir said: "I have already talked with him [Rezaul]. He will return to Chittagong on Wednesday. We will accord him a reception at the railway station. Then we will sit together to fix our future strategy for the polls."
"Nomination is not an ancestral property. It is a natural process that someone will come and someone will go," he added.
