A woman has died and seven other members of the same family suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at their house in Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj.
She died while undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Monday morning.
The deceased is Nurjahan, 60, who had almost 100% burns in her body, DMCH police outpost in-charge Inspector Md Bachchu Miah told Dhaka Tribune.
The fire originated at the ground floor of a five-storey building, where the family lived, in Sahebpara area of the upazila around 5:30am.
The other injured are - Md Kiron Miah, 45, Md Abul Hossain, 25, Md Hiron Miah, 25, Md Kawsar, 16, Mukta Akhter, 20, Ilma Akhter, 3, and Apon, 10. All of them are currently receiving treatment at DMCH.
Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Md Abdullah Al Arefin said gas accumulated in their flat as the gas burner was left on all night. The fire started when the burner was ignited in the morning.
On information, a fire fighting unit rushed the spot and extinguished the fire.
Siddhirganj police station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Faruk said: "A police team went to the spot immediately after receiving information about the fire."
