Hindu idols vandalized in Nilphamari

Unidentified miscreants have desecrated three Hindu idols at Dakkhin Sonakhuli village of Bothlagari union from Saidpur upazila in Nilphamari Tuesday night.

Saidpur Circle Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ashok Kumar confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

ASP Ashok said: “Unknown miscreants vandalized some idols at night. The motive for their actions is unclear, but the vandals involved in the incident will soon be captured and brought to justice”

According to police, some miscreants have stolen the head of Hindu goddess Durga’s idol in Chondir Mor area. 

Miscreants also destroyed an idol in Buri Mandir while stealing the head of Hindu Goddess Kali’s idol from the adjoining Sambard Kali Mandir.

Commenting on the incident, Saidpur Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad President Raj Kumar Poddar said: "A malicious group is working to disrupt communal harmony. Prompt legal actions must be taken in this regard."

Saidpur police station OC Abul Hasnat Khan said: “We have visited the scene. We will take legal steps against the miscreants who broke into the temples and vandalized the idols.”
