A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Manda upazila of Naogaon.

The incident took place at the Bharson Union Parishad of the upazila around 4am on Tuesday.

The deceased - Aurangzeb Zebu, 45 - was accused in 10 drug cases.

Three police officials were also injured in the incident.

They were taken to Manda Upazila Health Complex at first and then transferred to NaogaonSadar Hospital for further treatment, Additional Superintendent of Naogaon police RashedulHaque told Dhaka Tribune.

Confirming the news, he said: "On a tip-off, a DB police team conducted a drive in the area taking Zebu along with them."

As law enforcement arrived at the spot, the gang of drug traders opened fire on them, forcing the police to strike back in self-defence, and triggering a gunfight.

Zebu was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

Manda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaffar Hossain said: "Zebu's body has been brought to the police station."
