Man arrested for rape in Natore

The arrested was identified as Lotu Sarkar, 50, from Satail village of Chandai union

Police arrested a man for raping a speech impaired housewife in Boraigram upazila of Natore on Wednesday night.

The arrested was identified as Lotu Sarkar, 50, from Satail village of Chandai union.

Boraigram police station OC Dilip Kumar Das said: “Lotu entered the woman’s residence at 11pm and raped her by threatening to kill her. When her husband returned, she disclosed everything to him. The woman’s husband then informed us, and we detained Lotu.”

A case was filed by the husband with the Boraigram police station in the morning, OC Dilip added.

In Bagerhat, a 16-year old was hospitalized on Wednesday with internal bleeding after her alleged rapist attempted an abortion at home.

The body of her unborn baby, which was buried in the backyard of accused Sadhan Sarkar, was exhumed for autopsy and DNA testing yesterday.

Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Maruful Alam was present at the time.

According to the girl's father, the girl was raped for months and when she got pregnant, Sadhan Sarker made two attempts to abort the child she carried. In his recent attempt on Sunday the girl got severely ill from excessive blood loss and was taken to hospital.

The girl’s father filed a case with the Chitalmari police station yesterday.

In Satkhira, a former Chhatra League leader was arrested, early yesterday from Munshiganj area of Shyamnagar upazila, in a case filed over rape.

The arrested is Hafizur Rahman, ex-president of Chhatra League’s Shyamnagar upazila unit.

Shyamnagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Huda said currently there are 12 cases filed against Hafizur with the Shyamnagar police station, including cases filed for murder, rape, robbery, extortion, and theft. 

In Bogra, court trial began against Tufan Sarkar in a case over the rape of a schoolgirl and subsequent torture of the girl and her mother.

Bogra Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge AKM Fazlul Haque rejected Tufan’s bail petition, and framed charges after yesterday's hearing.

Special Public Prosecutor Naresh Mukherjee confirmed the matter.
