Gas explosion in Brahmanbaria

The incident occurred at Sher E Bangla High School in Bidyanagar village while a deep tube well was being installed by the school authority

A gas explosion occurred in the middle of a school field inKosbaupazila at 9am on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Sher E Bangla High School in Bidyanagar village while a deep tube well was being installed by the school authority.

According to students of the school, gas along with water and sand were coming out of the pipe which covered the whole field.

Classes were suspended and the students were sent back to their homes after the incident.

Assistant Headmaster AzadurRahman said: “We have closed the school for an indefinite period until this issue is resolved.”

Bayek union parishad Chairman Al MamunBhuiya said: “We have notified higher officials including local MP Law Minister AnisulHaque. Local administration have visited the scene. We have also alerted local people to avoid this area.”

Meanwhile, Petrobanglaand Salda gas field’s Geology department officers have inspected the scene.

Salda gas field’s Operator RezaulKarim said: “Geologists will monitor the situation for the next 72 hours. They will then give their decision.”

Police has been deployed to control the crowd in the area.
