The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested three suspected members of a gang involved in bail forgery on Tuesday night from Rangpur's Pirganj upazila.

The arrested are ABM Raihan, Shameem Reza, and Delwar Hossain, the gang leader.

This group allegedly forges the judicial magistrate's signature, seal, and documents of the lower courts to bail imprisoned criminals at the Supreme Court in exchange for money.

Police previously arrested Supreme Court lawyer Musrose Jhorna Sathi and her assistant Harun Ar Rashid in this connection. Harun is in jail and Sathi is out on bail currently.

Special Police Superintendent (SP) of CID Md Kamruzzaman (Dhaka Metro-South) addressed this issue at a press briefing at the organization's headquarters in Malibagh on Wednesday afternoon.

Kamruzzaman, speaking on one of the cases of bail forgery, said: "Lower court sent Yar Ali alias Khorshed Billal, an extremist leader (Purbo Banglar Communist Party), to prison after he was arrested in 2014 from Rajbari with an illegal weapon. After two years of imprisonment, he was granted bail for six months by the Supreme Court with the lower court's fake documents being used, with Sathi's help. The court became aware of the forgery few days later."

"A case was filed against Sathi and Harunur with Shahbag police station after the incident. Harun was arrested on January 9, and he gave a confessional statement on January 13. Police arrested three of the gang members based on the information provided by him," said the SP.

A large amount of forged documents, seals and pads of several judges from the High Court and lower courts were recovered during the arrest, added Kamruzzaman.

"According to Delwar, at least 50 criminals were granted bail with the forgery gang's aid during the last five years. The members of the group were previously assistants to several lawyers of the High Court," said the police official.

Kamruzzaman said they show the prime accused of various cases as a minor offender using fake documents to get bail.

"Police is trying to detain the rest of the members of the gang," added the SP.
