Police arrested a man for reportedly stabbing his cousin to death in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj

Man to walk the gallows for killing wife: A Kushtia court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife a year ago in Devinagar of Kushtia’s Khoksha upazila. Kushtia Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman delivered the verdict and fined the convict Abdul Kader Tk1 lakh. The convict was demanding dowry and when denied he strangled his wife to death on February 10, 2018.

Gaibandha man stabbed to death: Police arrested a man for reportedly stabbing his cousin to death in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj. The accused, Shahin Mandal, was having disputes with his cousin, Alal, and during an altercation on Tuesday, he stabbed and critically injured him. Later Alal died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. "A case was filed yesterday and we arrested Shahin," said Gobindaganj police OC AKM Mehedi Hasan.

Elephants trample woman to death in Bandarban: A group of wild elephants trampled a woman to death in Bandarban early on Wednesday in Lama upazila of Bandarban. The pack of elephants massacred the residence of Jahera and later trampled her to death, confirmed Lama police OC Amanul Haq. Due to deforestation and severe food shortage, wild animals are moving towards human settlements to find food, locals said.

Four IHTB students expelled over assault: Institute of Health Technology Barisal (IHTB) expelled four students on Wednesday for allegedly torturing a first year student of the institute. The accused, Sagor, Saikat, Emon, and Pias, second year students broke into a dormitory room on Friday and tortured Salahuddin for an hour. "Based on the three-member probe committee report, we expelled the students," said IHTB Principal Saiful Islam.

Man kills nephew in Sunamganj: Police on Wednesday arrested a man for reportedly killing his nephew over a family dispute in Shimulbak's Muradnagar village of Sunamganj. The deceased, Chan Miah, got involved in a quarrel on Wednesday with his uncle, the accused Shafique Miah, over picking cucumbers off a local land, and Shafique hit Chan with a sharp object killing him immediately, said Dakkhin Sunamganj police OC Md Harun-or-Rashid.

Man gets life imprisonment for killing wife: A Chapainawabganj court on Wednesday sentenced a man to life for killing his wife seven years ago in Nachol's Khikta in Chapainawabganj. Additional District and Sessions Judge Shawkat Ali delivered the verdict in-absentia since the convict Golap Hasda was absconding. The court also fined him Tk1 lakh, failing to pay, an additional year of jail would be imposed. On August 4, 2013, Golap hacked his wife to death over a marital dispute.

Rajshahi man held with Tk1.5cr worth heroin: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested a man along with 1,475kg of heroin worth Tk1.5 crore from C&B area in Rajshahi’s Godagari upazila. The arrestee was identified as Ismail Hossain Babu, 30. Acting on a tip off, a team of RAB-5 conducted a drive in the area around 5pm Tuesday and arrested Babu with the heroin worth Tk1.5 crore, confirmed Godagari police OC Khairul Islam.
