RAB 7 destroyed four poppy fields in Ruma upazila of Bandarban last morning
Wrongfully arrested man released in Gazipur : A tea-seller, who was arrested mistakenly instead of real accused, was released from Gazipur jail on Thursday. Gazipur Court police Inspector Mir Rokibul Haque said : " Gazipur Forest Court Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Nazmunnahar on Thursday ordered to release Rafikul Islam." On January 17,police arrested Rafikul Islam, 42 as he had the same name as the person against whom a warrant was issued by the Forest Court.

Man killed in Jessore mob beatings: A man was beaten to death by an angry mob on suspicion of theft in Abhaynagar upazila on Friday. The deceased Iliyas Sheikh, 40, was the son of Hakim Sheikh from the village. Abhaynagar police station OC Md Tazul Islam said: Few locals detained Iliyas in the area around 4 am Friday for allegedly stealing a van and beat him to death on the spot." With Iliyas's death, five people were killed in the last two weeks in the district.

16 Jamaat-Shibir men held in C’nawabganj: Police on Friday arrested 16 leaders and activists of Jamaat–e–Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir from Charmohanpur area in Sadar upazila with cocktails and gunpowder. Sadar Model police station OC Ziaur Rahman said police they made the arrest when Jamaat-Shibir men were holding a clandestine meeting in an orchard in the area at 7am. Some of them managed to flee but police arrested 16 of them along with 15 cocktails and half kilograms of gunpowder.

RAB destroys poppy fields in Bandarban: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) destroyed four poppy fields in Ruma upazila last morning. RAB7 chief Moshiur Rahman said poppies were being cultivated across seven acres of land deep inside the forest in Keokradong. The owners of the farm aimed to export poppies abroad illegally. RAB recovered around 60kg of poppy nectar from the four fields and later torched the fields and the nectar. No arrests were made during the drive.

15 PSTU students suspended for ragging: Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) suspended 15 students for their involvement in ragging students of Sher-e-Bangla 1 dormitory. The suspension notice signed on Thursday by Additional Registrar Prof Dr Swadesh Chandra Samanta, also demanded a show cause letter as to why the suspension will not be expanded for the entire semester of January-June 2020.

Teacher jailed for hurting religious sentiments: A primary school teacher was sent to jail on Thursday for reportedly hurting religious sentiments through Facebook posts in Jhenaidah. The accused Pintu Kumar Majumdar, 48, of Shailkupa upazila, was arrested on Wednesday night. He soon deleted the provocative posts before locals attacked his home, said Shailkupa police station OC Bazlur Rahman. Abaipur union Awami League Secretary Tofazzel Hossain Topu filed a case under the Digital Security Act.
