Additional police have been deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incident

Chittagong University-bound shuttle train services have remained suspended amid strike after a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Meanwhile, police have detained 20 Chhatra League men after conducting an overnight drive on the campus.

On Wednesday afternoon, two Chhatra League groups -- Bijoy and Choose Friends with Care (CFC) -- locked into clash on the campus leaving four of them injured.

Later, Bijoy group announced an indefinite strike on campus protesting the assault.

Whenever any strike is called on the campus, loco masters stop plying the shuttle trains due to fear of abduction. The strikers often abduct the loco masters during such times.

Tanmoy Chowdhury, station master of Sholoshahar Station, told the Dhaka Tribune that the shuttle train service, prime mode of transportation for non-resident students of Chittagong University, remained suspended since Wednesday night.

“As many as eight pairs of shuttle trains have remained suspended on the university route,” he said.

Masud Alam, officer-in-charge of Hathazari police station, said they have deployed additional police force on the campus to avert any untoward incident.

"We have apprehended 20 students of two rival groups and are verifying their identities. The situation is now under control," said the OC.
