Locals spotted the bullet-ridden body of Hasan in the border area early Tuesday

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly gunned down a Bangladeshi citizen at the Mominpara border in Panchagarh Sadar upazila.

The deceased is Hasan Ali, 25, a cow trader in the Sadar upazila.

Local residents came upon Hasan's body lying near demarcation pillar number 752 in the Bangladesh-India border area early on Tuesday.

According to them, Hasan, along with several others, entered India by crossing the border to bring cows to Bangladesh from there. BSF personnel patrolling the Berubari area began to shoot at them indiscriminately.

Hasan died at the scene when he was shot in the head, while the others managed to flee the area.

Accusing BSF of the killing, Hasan's wife Sadia Jahan said the BSF members had left Hasan's body inside Bangladesh territory near Mominpara border before Fajr prayers.

Md Yusuf Ali, superintendent of police (SP) of Panchagarh, said: "The bullet-hit body was found in Bangladesh territory. We cannot confirm anything without investigating first."

The body was sent to the morgue for autopsy, added the SP.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 56 Battalion Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Col Md Mamunul Haq said: "We are trying to track down Hasan's associates. Correct information regarding the incident can be known only after a report based on the details of the matter is available."
