Cultural activists on Friday formed human chains demanding the prompt release of Folk Singer Shariyat Sarker Bayati, who was arrested last Saturday for his alleged anti-Islamic remarks.
Devotees of Tangail district unit Fakir Maula Darbar Sharif formed a human chain in front of the Tangail Press Club around 11:30 am.
Among others Peer (spiritual leader) Shafial Bashar of the organization's Manikganj unit, Baul Singer Fazlu Sarkar, Shahab Uddin and Amir Hossain participated in the movement demanding Shariyat Bayati’s release.
Meanwhile, cultural activists under the banner of “Charon Cultural Centre” formed a human chain at the Satmahta area of the town also demanding the release of Shariyat Bayati.

Among others Radha Rani Barman, district unit organizer of the Charon Cultural Centre, Dhananjay Barman, president of the district unit Samajtantrik Chhatra Front were present at the protest.
Bayati Shariyat Sarker was arrested over his alleged anti-Islamic remarks at a program, and sent to jail on Tuesday after a three day remand.
Cultural activists from all over the country, including Dhaka, Manikganj, Rajbari, Rajshahi districts have been holding processions, human chains and demonstrations demanding his release.
