Awami League MP of Bogra 1 constituency Abdul Mannan has passed away at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 67.
He died at the coronary care unit (CCU) of Dhaka's Labaid Hospital around 8am on Saturday.
Sonatola upazila Chairman Advocate Minhaduzzaman Liton, also the lawmaker's brother-in-law, confirmed the news of his death to Dhaka Tribune.
He said Mannan fell sick on Thursday afternoon as his blood pressure and sugar levels were going down. He was brought to Dhaka's Popular Hospital, and then was transferred to Labaid and kept on life support.
A pall of gloom has befallen his family, party members, politicians, and the general public of Bogra district upon the news of his death.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shared her message of condolence and expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Abdul Mannan.
In the message, she recalled the dedication of the former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League and his significant contribution during various democratic movements.
The prime minister also prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy for the bereaved family.
