A clash between two rival groups of local Awami League activists broke out at Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila.

The activists reportedly vandalized private properties, homes and robbed stores during the clash, which took place at the upazila’s Moharajpur village late Thursday night.

“The clash erupted as a result of a feud over establishing supremacy in the area between local Awami League leaders – Sohel Rana and Moktadirul Islam Mintu Biswas,” said Gurudaspur police OC Mozhahirul Islam on Friday.

“Eight activists from both parties have been detained after the incident,” Islam said before adding “Necessary actions will be taken after inquiry.”

“An organizational inquiry has been opened after the clash was reported. Offenders will face punitive action from the party after the investigation,” said Awami League district unit Organizing Secretary Malek Sheikh.
