Police on Saturday arrested a folk singer when unrest broke out in Tangail, led by pro-Islamic groups demanding punishment for the singer.
The detained, Bayati Shariyat Sarker, 35, was arrested from Bhaluka's Bashil area. The district court later issued a three-day remand for him on Saturday evening, to ensure proper investigation of the incident, police sources say.
Mirzapur police OC Sayedur Rahman said: "Acting on a case filed by Maolana Faridul Islam under the Digital Security Act on January 9, we arrested the singer on Saturday.
"The court issued a three-day remand against our 10-day-remand plea; we are questioning him in custody," the OC added.

Later when the video of the program went viral via YouTube and different social media sites, enraged locals and pro-Islamic groups staged protests and held processions throughout Tangail demanding proper punishment for the singer.
