Four, including two female workers injured
A fire broke out on Friday at a clothing factory in Gazipur, owned by Islam Group. Eight units of the Fire Service worked tirelessly for four hours to douse the fire and get it under control. According to workers at the factory, four have been injured in the fire, including two female workers.
Factory workers, members of the Fire Service and locals confirmed that a fire broke out on the fifth floor of Islam Oven, a factory owned by Islam Group of Industries in Konabari, Gazipur at 2:15pm on Friday.
The fire started to spread across the floor after catching onto clothing samples and packaging items. The flames soon engulfed the sixth floor as factory workers failed to get the situation under control. Four of them were injured while trying to douse the blaze and were rushed to the hospital by fellow workers.
The list of casualties could have been longer if all workers were present. Most of them were out on lunch break and only a few were inside the building.
Lt Col Zillur Rahman, director (operations and maintenance) of Fire Service said: “Eight units of the Fire Service were dispatched from Fire stations in Joydebpur, Kaliakoir, Sreepur, Savar EPZ and Kashimpur to douse the fire. At 5:45, almost four hours after the fire broke out, the units were able to get the situation under control. We are yet to identify the reason behind the fire.”
