5 killed in road accidents in 3 districts

The incidents took place in Nilphamari, Gopalganj and Bogra

Five people including two women and student have been killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Nilphamari, Gopalganj and Bogra districts.

In Nilphamari, two people, including a woman, were killed and several others were injured in a head-on-collision between a bus and a microbus at Abiler Bazar area in Kishoreganj upazila on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Johurul Islam, 65, and his sister Anwara Begum, 57, were from the Nawabganj village of the district's Jhaldhaka upazila.

Quoting locals, Kishoreganj police station Officer-in-Charge(OC) Harun-or-Rashid said: "A Panchagarh-bound bus t-boned a microbus in Abiler Bazar area in the upazila, leaving two passengers dead on the spot and several others from the microbus injured. They are currently undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. 

"We have seized the bus, but the driver managed to flee the scene. An unnatural death (UD) case was filed." 

In Gopalganj, two people, a student and a woman were killed in road accidents in two different places in Sadar upazila on Thursday and Friday.

Bishwajit Mondol , a student of Bagerhat PC College, was killed by a bus while he was on a Mahindra on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Pathalia area on Friday. He was the son of Ranajit Mondol from Sreerampur village in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat district.

Meanwhile, a woman was run over by a bus while crossing the road on Dhaka-Khulna higway in Ghonapara area  on Thursday.

The deceased, Laboni Begum, 26, was the wife of Tawhid Molla from Manikhar village of Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

Gopalganj police station officer-in-charge Monirul Islam confirmed the matter.

In Bogra, a man died after a truck hit his motorcycle on Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Bottola area in Sherpur upazila on Friday.

The deceased, Faruk Hossain, 27, was the son of Abdur Rahman from Kafura Purbopara village of the upazila.

Kundarhat highway police outpost Sub Inspector(SI) Ashraful Alom said: " A truck hit Ashraful's motorcycle in Bottola upazila and left him dead on the spot.

"The body was recovered and it was handed over to his family. An unnatural death case was filed."
