RAB recovered a firearm and 8,000 yaba pills from the spot
A suspected Rohingya robber has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.
The incident took place Shiallia Ghona area near Muchoni camp 26 early Tuesday.
The deceased is Anwar Sadek, 40, a resident of Rangikhali south Leda camp area of Nhilla union in the upazila. RAB said Sadek was also involved in drug trading.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Cox's Bazar RAB 15 Deputy Commander Major Rabiul Islam said: "Acting on a tip-off, RAB conducted an anti-drug drive at Teknaf's Muchoni camp 26 on Monday evening."
When the elite force arrived there, a gang of drug traders including some Rohingya people opened fire at them, injuring two RAB officials. They were first taken to Ramu cantonment and then to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment.
During the drive, RAB detained a Rohingya robber and drug trader Sadek from the camp, he added.
RAB officials conducted a drive for a second time at the area, taking Sadek along with them, to confiscate yaba pills from the camp. The drug traders opened fire at the law enforcement again, forcing them to strike back in self-defence, triggering a gunfight that left Sadek dead on spot.
Major Rabiul Islam said his body has been kept at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
RAB also recovered a firearm and 8,000 yaba pills from the spot.
