Tk13 lakh worth of drugs hidden in sacks of potatoes

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police, in a special drive on Wednesday, arrested two drug dealers along with huge quantities of phensedyl, yaba pills, marijuana, and heroin in Naogaon.

The suspected drug dealers Shahdat Hossain Rubel, 38, and Ahsan Habib, 35, were arrested in Kathaltali area of Sadar upazila around 11am.

The duo were apprehended while smuggling, 540 bottles of phensedyl, 1,175 yaba pills, 500 grams of marijuana, and 40 grams of heroin, in sacks of potatoes.

The law enforcement informed that the value the contraband drugs was over Tk13 lakh.

Naogaon Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan confirmed the matter in a press conference at DB police headquarters in the district town around 2pm.

He said: “Acting on a tip-off, a special team of the DB police, led by DB police OC KM Samsuddin, conducted a drive in the aforementioned area and arrested the two suspected drug dealers along with the illegal narcotics.

A case will be filed against the detained suspects under the Narcotics Control Act and they will soon be produced before a court, he added.
