Two RAB members were also injured in the gunfight
A suspected drug dealer was killed in a so-called gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.
According to RAB, the incident took place in Marine Drive area under Teknaf upazila in the early hours.
The deceased was identified as Md Rubel, 22, son of Md Siddik and a resident of Hneela’s Jadimura Jummapara, who was also wanted in a narcotics case, said RAB, reports UNB.
Lt Mirza Shahed Mahatab, camp commander of RAB 15, said, acting on a tip-off, their team had taken position on the road around 3am on Wednesday.
“But drug traders opened fire on our team, triggering the gunfight,” he said. “Rubel was shot at the time.”
Later, he was taken to Teknaf Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Two RAB members were also injured in the gunfight, Lt Shahed said.
A firearm, two bullets, and 10,000 yaba pills were also recovered from the scene.
