The country is celebrating the 49th Victory Day Monday, remembering the three million people who sacrificed their lives to carve out an independent country in 1971.

This year, the Victory Day is set to be celebrated ahead of the two greatest historic episodes of the Bengali nation — one is the birth centenary celebrations of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in March 2020-2021 while another one is the golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh to be celebrated in 2021.

People from all spheres of life will pay their tribute to the martyrs with various programs chalked out by the political parties, administration, educational institutions, and so on.

The celebrations will commence with a 31-gun salute at dawn, the president and prime minister will pay tribute at the National Memorial at Savar. The families of Birshresthas and freedom fighters will pay homage. Foreign envoys, various socio-political organizations, and the public will also pay their respect.

Marking the day, the national flag will be hoisted at all government, semi-government, autonomous and non-government establishments and their premises will be decorated with lights.

“Bijoy-Mancha” (stage of victory) has been set up at Upazila and district levels for the victory day to organize discussions on the Liberation War, photo and film exhibitions, documentary screening, and cultural programs.

In Khulna

District administration has set up programs to celebrate the day pledging to establish a non-communal, prosperous, and well developed Bangladesh in the spirit of the Liberation war.

To observe the day, an elaborate program has been drawn up during a meeting recently in the conference room of the deputy commissioner office, reports our correspondent Hedait Hossain Molla.

Khulna divisional commissioner Md. Lokman Hossain Mia will be hoisting the national flag at Khulna Stadium Ground and will take the salute from the grand parade.

Khulna Shishu Academy will be organizing an art and painting competition for children on the occasion. Discussion meeting and a reception program to honour the freedom fighters will be held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner office.

Hoisting of national flags atop all public and private buildings at dawn and placing of wreaths by the people of all walks of life at the Gallyamary monument on the day.

Khulna BISIC will organize two days handicraft fair at Khulna Public hall tomorrow. A discussion meeting on the life and sketch of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin will be held at Rupsha Ghat area on December 17.

Khulna city and district unit Awami League has chalked out different programmes to observe the victory day.

In Rangpur

People from all walks of life are in a festive mood to celebrate the day amid huge enthusiasm paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.

Officials in the district administrations said today preparations have been completed and adequate security measures taken to ensure peaceful celebrations of Victory Day in Rangpur city, all 16 district and 58 Upazila headquarters in the division, reports BSS.

The district administration, freedom fighters, Awami League and other political parties, educational institutions, socio-cultural, professional and business organizations have scheduled elaborate daylong programs to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.

Officials of the divisional and district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), Rangpur Range Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), district police and Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad (BMS) will place wreaths at ‘Arjan’.

Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin said similar programs have been taken for celebration of Victory Day in a befitting manner in Kurigram.

In Rajshahi

All sorts of preparation have been completed to celebrate Victory Day in a befitting manner in Rajshahi.

The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), district and divisional administration and different organizations have chalked out elaborate programs to celebrate the day.

The programs include a 31-gun salute, placing of wreaths at the monuments and Shaheed Minars erected to pay homage to martyrs, hoisting of the national flags atop all public and private buildings, decorating city streets with national flags and colourful posters, and illumination of all public buildings, roads and street islands in the evening, reports our correspondent Dulal Abdullah.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton will open the daylong programs by placing a wreath at Bhuban Mohan Park Shaheed Minar at zero hour.

The RCC will accord a reception to gallantry award-winning and all other valiant freedom fighters at its hall room.

In Noakhali

The district administration and different organizations have taken steps to chalk out elaborate programs to celebrate the day, reports our correspondent Ranajit Kumar Kuri.

A nineteen-day victory fair started in the town yesterday, marking the Victory Day.

Noakhali 4 MP Mohammed Ekramul Karim Chowdhury inaugurated the function in the morning.
