Two more spans will be installed this month
The 18th span of Padma Bridge has been successfully installed on Wednesday afternoon.
The Span 3-E (18th span) was installed on the piers 17-18 to complete 2,700m of the bridge, Assistant Engineer Humayun Kabir confirmed to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
He said the 150ft long, 3,140 ton span was carried by the biggest crane Tian-E from the construction yard to the pillars. Then it was installed on the 17-18 number piers permanently at 1pm on Wednesday.
He also said, out of 33 spans at the construction site, 18 have already been installed. Four more spans are ready, of which two more will be installed this month.
“We successfully installed two spans last month,” Humayun added.
Almost all the challenging tasks of the bridge have been done. Besides installation of the spans, the work of roadway slabs and railway slabs is also progressing as scheduled.
The 6.15km long two storied bridge is being constructed of steel and concrete. The main bridge is being constructed by the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering group company limited.
