Awami League has finalized their candidate for the upcoming by-polls to the Chittagong-8 constituency.
The ruling party nominated Moslem Uddin Ahmed, current president of Awami League's Chittagong South unit, for the by-poll which is set to be held on January 13.
Mofizur Rahman, general secretary of Awami League's Chittagong South unit, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
According to sources, Moslem’s nomination for the vacant seat was decided during an Awami League Parliamentary Board (ALPB) meeting at the premier's official residence Ganabhaban on Monday.
Earlier on December 1, Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Md Alamgir had announced that the by-poll to Chittagong-8 constituency will be held on January 13.
Alamgir said that December 12 is the last date for submission of nomination papers, which will be scrutinized on December 15.
December 22 is the deadline for candidature withdrawal, he added.
The Jatiya Sangsad seat became vacant following the death of the Executive President of a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) Mainuddin Khan Badal
