A man has been sentenced to six-months imprisonment for sexually harassing a female student of Chittagong University on a running bus.
The incident took place close to the university’s gate 1 around 10am on Sunday.
Hathajari police station Officer in Charge (OC) Masud Alam confirmed that a mobile court sentenced the accused, Mohammad Manik Miah.
Manik Miah, 32 is from Hathajari upazila's Mondakini area.
He was caught by other passengers in the act and was handed over to the police when the bus reached the university.
The victim while speaking to Dhaka Tribune, said: “He was sitting in front of me, after noticing me he sat behind me and started touching me.”
“As I started screaming, my friends and other passengers caught him in the act."
About the matter, the university Proctor SM Monirul Islam said "We received the complaint from the victim and we told the police to take legal action against him".
"The accused Manik was handed over to us by some students of the university," OC Masud Alam said.
On November 27, the same incident happened with another female student of the university who was sexually harassed on a bus of Shohag Paribahan, allegedly by two of its staffers.
Later, the victim narrated the incident on her Facebook wall, which drew reactions among netizens and the fellow students of the university.
