Jute mill workers enforcing strike in Khulna, Jessore

The strike started at 6am on Tuesday and will continue till 6am on Wednesday

Workers of nine state-owned jute mills in Khulna and Jessore are enforcing a 24-hour strike to press home their 11-point demand. 

The demands include necessary allocation for jute sector, and implementation of the national wage commission.

Workers and employees enforced the strike starting at 6am on Tuesday and will continue till 6am on Wednesday, state-owned jute mills CBA and non-CBA Sangram Parishad Joint Convener Murad Hossain said.

Jute mills workers protest in Khulna on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 | Dhaka TribuneAs part of the six-day-long program, on its fourth day on Tuesday, workers of Crescent Jute Mills, Platinum Jute Mills, Khalishpur Jute Mills, Daulatpur Jute Mills, Star Jute Mills, Alim Jute Mills and Eastern Jute Mills in Khulna; JJI, and Carpeting Jute Mills in Jessore gathered in front of their mills and staged demonstration to realize their demands.

Khalishpur Jute Mills workers staged demonstration burning old tyres on the street.

They will join rallies scheduled to be held in front of the respective mills around 4pm.

The jute mill workers are also scheduled to hold meetings on December 8, and go on a hunger strike on December 10.
