A woman gave birth to a baby at the main entrance of Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj on Sunday night, after allegedly being denied services at the hospital by the duty doctor.

The victim was identified as Rahima Khatun, 22, of Rupshachar village in Sadar upazila, reports UNB.

Her husband Abdur Rahim said Rahima was taken to the hospital on Sunday night after she went into labour.

But the duty doctor – Banasree Saha – released her few hours later without providing any treatment and suggested taking her to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra, saying she was suffering from anaemia, Rahim alleged.

However, Rahima gave birth to their baby at the hospital’s main entrance while she was boarding a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.

“My wife didn’t get treatment despite repeated requests to the duty doctor. The doctor was even talking over mobile phone without paying any heed to our requests,” Rahim alleged.

Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital’s Superintendent Dr Ramesh Chandra Saha said he was currently on leave, but added that a probe body will be formed to look into the incident after he resumes duty.
