First death anniversary of Taramon Bibi, a brave liberation war freedom fighter, who died from asthma related complications at her own residence in   Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram district,  was observed on Sudnay.

Her son, Abu Taher said: "To observe my mother's death anniversary we arranged a Quran recitation and milad mahfil at our house. Everyone please pray for my mother."

"There was no government initiative to observe my mother's death anniversary. No one has reached out since my mother's burial, even her grave is conserved by the family alone," he said sorrowfully.

The original name of Taramon is Taramon Begum, and she was born in Kacharipara of Rajibpur upazila under Kurigram district. She was the daughter of Abdus Sobhan and Kulsum Bibi. She married Abdul Majid, and mothered a son and a daughter.

She had served in Sector number 11 during the Liberation War, and would cook for the freedom fighters, hide arms for them, gathered information from the Pakistani military, and also took part in face-to-face combat.

She showed extraordinary valour in fearlessly fighting for the country and was awarded the title "Bir Protik" by the Bangladesh government in 1973.

Sadly, during the last years of her life she was inflicted with frustration over how this is not the country she envisioned, and how inhumanity still exists among the people of Bangladesh.

However to show respect, authorities of the museum at Khejurtul village lighted candles to remember the great soul.

Advocate Abraham Lincon, founder of North Bengal Museum said: The name of Taramon Bibi is weaved in the history of Bangladesh’s liberation war, and she will always be remembered for her bravery. This is a small gesture from our side to remember this great soul.

Advocate Abraham Lincon, freedom fighter Harun-Ur- Rashid along with others were present at the program to pay homage to Taramon.
