Bikram Chakma used to work as the extortion collector of the Chittagong Hill Tracts JSS unit

A Jana SanghatiSamity (JSS) member has been shot dead in Rangamati.

The incident occurred at Mogban area of Rangamati Sadar Upazila on Sunday.

The deceased is Bikram Chakma, 40, who used to work as the extortion collector for the Chittagong Hill Tracts JSS unit.

Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Jahedul Haque Roni confirmed the matter.

He said: "According to the locals, Bikram was gunned down by a group of unidentified miscreants near a tea stall at Mogban.

"He died on the spot. Police immediately rushed to the spot and recovered his body."

OC Mir added that Bikram was killed following a dispute over sharing money between two rivals group.

Police sent the body for autopsy in Rangamati General Hospital. They recovered four bullet shells from the spot.

Following the incident, law enforcement has been strengthened in the area centring the 22nd anniversary of Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord.
