An Awami League leader has been accused of possessing corrugated iron (CI) sheets belonging to the government’s disaster management and relief program in Gopalganj.
The accused Sher Ali Molla, is the Fukra union unit party president in Kashiani upazila.
Fukra Union Parishad’s acting Chairman Shikder Kaiyum Hossain discovered 32 CI sheets at Sher Ali's residence on Friday, after being informed by the upazila project implementation officer.
Sher Ali's wife, Hamida Sultana confirmed that the CI sheets belonged to the government’s disaster management relief and program.
Regarding the CI sheets, Sher Ali Molla said: "The CI sheets at my house belong to my brother-in-law Miraz Khan. He has a piece of land but no home. So, I helped him acquire CI sheets and Tk12,000 cash from the government relief fund and I am safekeeping the sheets for him.
“My rivals are making these allegations to tarnish my reputation."
Kashiani Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Alauddin said: "Sher Ali's brother-in-law did receive relief materials on two occasions. We will investigate to determine if the CI sheets found at Sher Ali’s home is indeed from relief funds or not."
