2 suspected criminals killed in Satkhira 'gunfight'

Police recovered two foreign-made pistols and one round of bullets from the spot

Two suspected criminals have been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Satkhira city.

The incident happened in Bokchora Mor area early Saturday.

The deceased are Dip Azad, son of Moinul Islam from Munshipara area of the city, and Saiful Islam, son of Sobur Sarder from Saihati village of Kaliganj upazila.

Several sources said they were bodyguards of Satkhira Chhatra League General Secretary Syed Sadikur Rahman and associates of Satkhira Sadar Member of Parliament (MP) Mir Mostak Ahmed Robi

Satkhira Superintendent of Police (SP) Mostafizur Rahman said: "Dip and Saiful were arrested by Satkhira Detective Branch (DB) of police and Kaliganj police station on Saturday.

 "We took them to Bokchora Mor to recover the firearms which were under the possession of their gang."

The SP added: "As police reached the spot, Dip and Saiful's associates opened fire, triggering a gunfight.

"The duo were caught in the line of fire and died on their way to the hospital, while others managed to flee the scene."

Police also recovered two foreign-made pistols and one round of bullets from the spot.
