Ranjit had long been involved in smuggling gold from Bangladesh to India, police said
Police have arrested an Indian national with two gold bars in Chittagong.
The arrestee, Ranjit Acharya, 52, was arrested from City Gate area Thursday evening.
Confirming the matter, Akbar Shah police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mustafizur Rahman said: "Acting on a tip-off, a team of police arrested Ranjit when he was crossing the police check post near the City Gate area."
He added, police seized two gold bars worth Tk9.5 lakh, an Indian passport, Rs2,000, Tk3,000, and a bus ticket from his possession.
"Ranjit had long been involved in smuggling gold from Bangladesh to India," OC Mustafizur said.
A case has been filed in this connection.
