12 injured as AL factions clash in Chittagong

The clash erupted within fifteen minutes of a triennial conference

At least 12 members of the Sitakunda Upazila Awami League unit have been injured in a clash during its triennial conference in Chittagong, on Friday. 

Sitakunda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Alam Molla said: "The activists clashed over sitting arrangements around 2:30pm. 

"The injured were admitted to the Sitakunda Health Complex."

According to local sources, the clash erupted within fifteen minutes of the conference, reports UNB.

After the clash, Abdullah Al Baker Bhuiyan and Sitakunda Chairman SM Al Mamun were elected president and general secretary of the upazila Awami League unit. 

Member of Parliament (MP) Fazle Karim Chowdhury inaugurated the conference where Awami League Presidium Member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP; Didarul Alam, MP; Chittagong Zila Parishad Chairman MA Salam, among others, were present.

When the committee was announced, followers of Didarul Alam left the venue shouting slogans rejecting it.

The triennial conference took place after seven years.
