A walkway made out of wood at the Akash Lina Eco-Tourism Centre, located beside the Sundarbans in Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira collapsed on Tuesday morning.

The authority says the walkway that was on the estuary of the Chuna and Malancho river, collapsed due to the river erosion. Further, one fishing spot and selfie zone adjacent to the walkway also broke down, incurring heavy loss to them.

Tourists including locals and foreigners use the walkway to revel in the scenic beauty of the tourist spot including the Sundarbans, they added.

Md Saiful Islam, caretaker of the tourist spot said the bridge suddenly collapsed around Tuesday morning as strong current intensified river erosion recently.

After inspecting the area, Md Kamruzzaman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer(UNO) of Shyamnagar said: ''We informed the Satkhira Deputy Commissioner(DC) about the matter. The Water Development Board(WDB) is dumping sand bags to counter the erosion.

The Eco-Tourism Centre was built under a government project in 2015 to attract local and foreign tourists.
