The authorities of Rajshahi University (RU) have temporarily suspended two of its students for allegedly beating up one of their fellow students at a dormitory.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting on Sunday, said Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman.
Following the student protest, both Chhatra League students, Asif Lak of Islamic Studies, and Humayun Kabir Nahid of the Bangla department have been suspended, he said.
Earlier in the morning, students under a "Nipiron Birodhi Chhatra-Shikkhok Oikya Rajshahi University" banner, brought out a protest procession on campus and staged a sit-in in front of the administrative building, demanding the permanent suspension of the two Chhatra League activists.
They demanded permanent suspension and said if the two were not suspended permanently, they, the students, would go for a strong protest.
On Friday midnight, Nahid and Asif reportedly beat up Sohrab Mia, a resident student of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall, claiming that he stole a laptop.
Victim Sohrab, a third-year Department of Finance and Banking student, suffered injuries to his head and was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
