The families of deceased were given Tk1 lakh each by the CCC mayor

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has said the city corporation will bear the medical costs of the people injured in the gas pipeline blast.

CCC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Rafikul Islam confirmed the matter on Sunday.

He said the city corporation will also bear all the necessary expenses required for the burial of the deceased.

The mayor also gave Tk1 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

At the same time, the district administration will also provide Tk20,000 for each of the deceased’s families.

Earlier in the day, seven people were killed and at least 15 others injured after a gas pipeline exploded in a house in Chittagong’s Patharghata area, causing its walls to collapse.

The five-storey house named Barua Bhaban was situated on Brickfield road.

Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost Inspector Jahirul Alam said, "The seven died because of the wall collapse, not due to burn injuries."

Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Purna Chandra Mutsuddi said: "We were informed about the incident around 9:08am. The rescue operation is on."

"The explosion occurred on the ground floor due to a leakage in the gas riser which was supposed to be placed outside, causing high casualty," he added.
