Members of the south zone of Bangladeshi Coast Guard have seized 1,200kg of non-transportable jatka ilish (ilish fry) from two launches in the Meghna River in Bhola Sadar upazila.
Petty officer of Coast Guard Md Sohel Rana told Dhaka Tribune: "A team of the south zone of Coast Guard recovered 1,200kg of jatka ilish from two Dhaka-bound launches - Tashrif 1 and Farhan 4, around 9:30pm Wednesday."
In total, the recovered ilish jatka would cost Tk600,000 if they were sold in markets.
Later, they were distributed among different madrasas and orphanages in Bhola, Sohel said.
Government has banned capturing, transporting and selling all jatka ilish from November 1-June 30, Bhola Fisheries Officer Azharul Islam said.
