Two people have been killed after a fish-laden pickup van plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Comilla district.
The incident occurred in Korpai area under Burichang upazila of the district early Wednesday.
One of the deceased is Syed Hussain, 35, a fish merchant by profession and son of Matiur Rahman from Bahar Chara area of Cox’s Bazar.
The van’s helper, 25, also died in the accident. His identity is not known yet.
Mainamati Highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain said: “Upon receiving the information, we went to the scene and found two people dead on the spot.
"Later, the bodies were sent to a local hospital morgue for autopsy."
Police also recovered the van after the incident. However, the driver fled the scene.
No one was injured in the road crash, the OC added.
