A Detective Branch (DB) police team arrested a man with a cache of crude explosives and sharp weapons from Ulashi in Sharsha upazila of Jessore on Friday night.
The arrested was identified as Ashik Islam, son of Shariful Islam Piplu from the same area.
Additional Superintendent of Police Touhidul Islam disclosed the information in a press briefing held on Saturday at the district office of the Superintendent of Police.
He said: "Acting on a tip-off, a DB police team conducted a drive at one Tarikul Islam Milon's residence on Friday night. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, Milon’s nephew Ashik hurled crude bombs at them. Fortunately no policemen were injured in this drive, and the perpetrator was successfully arrested.
“Police also recovered six petrol bombs, five cocktail bombs, four machetes, and four hockey sticks from the scene.”
In primary interrogation Ashik said the recovered weapons were owned by his uncle Tarikul Islam, he added.
A case is filed with Sharsha police station under the Arms Act in this regard.
