Flight operations will remain shut from 4:00pm on Saturday to 6:00am on Sunday

Flight operations at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong have been declared shut for 14 hours, as the very severe cyclonic storm Bulbul is heading fast to Bangladesh coasts.

Wing Commander ABM Sarwar-E-Zaman, manager of the airport, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab) decided to suspend the flight operations at the airport from 4:00pm on Saturday to 6:00am on Sunday as a precautionary measure, Sarwar said.

Due to the powerful cyclone, Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Saturday issued great danger signal number 10 for maritime ports of Mongla and Payra, while issuing the great danger signal number nine for Chittagong port.

Bulbul, situated over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, moved northwards and may cross West Bengal-Khulna coast (near Sundarbans) by Saturday evening, the Met office bulletin said.
