‘Bangladesh earns global appreciation for women development’

Speakers said government is implementing various programs to ensure necessary health services to women, children


Bangladesh has continued to earn global appreciation for achieving commendable success in development of women and children and eradicating gender disparity in last eleven years.

Officials, academics and public representatives made the observation at an orientation workshop held at Baruahat Business and Technical Management College auditorium in Kawnia upazila in Rangpur, a press release said on Friday.

The District Information Office organized the event for leading personalities in the society under the fifth-phase of the Mass Communication Program for Development of Children and Women Project on Thursday evening, reports BSS.

With Senior District Information Officer (DIO) Humayun Kobir in the chair, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kawnia upazila Jasmine Nahar attended the workshop as the chief guest.

Moderated by Assistant Professor Kamrul Huda of the educational institution, Principal Shah Md Rezaul Islam and Kursha union Chairman Mohammad Hossain addressed the workshop as special guests.

Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam and Kawnia Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Asif Ferdous were present as resource persons.

Professor Alam made a presentation on ‘Prevention of child marriage, drug abuse and militancy’ for further speeding up socio-economic advancement putting stress on building adequate social and family level awareness to eliminate these social curses.

Dr Ferdous discussed ‘maternal and child health care, safe maternity and autism’ and various pragmatic programs being implemented by the government to ensure necessary health services to women, pregnant mothers, newborn babies and autistic children.

Humayun Kobir delivered keynote speech on birth registration, sanitation, preventing food adulteration, protecting the environment, preventing drowning of children and ensuring disaster-time safety and security of women and children.

The resource persons discussed various epoch-making steps of the government like re-launching of community clinics, sub-stipends for female students, massive social safety-net and other programs for development of women and children.

The chief guest suggested all concerned to work with utmost integrity aiming at ensuring sustainable development of women and children to attain the sustainable development goals by 2030 and move towards a way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
