Police on Wednesday arrested Mehedi Hasan Molla, 40, an imam of the Jaban Khan Jameh Masjid, for reportedly raping a fifth grade girl in Sadar Kumrakhali, Madaripur.
Sources said the girl went to the accused Mehedi for Arabic lessons and was reportedly raped on October 12 and 15. The imam forced himself on the girl, raped her twice, and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.
Madaripur police station OC Sowgatul Alam said: "Acting on a case filed in November 5, we sent the detained Mehedi to jail through the court."
Garment worker gangraped, two held
Police on Wednesday arrested Mizan, 30, and Delowar, 30, and sent them to jail for gangraping a garment worker on Tuesday in Ashulia, Savar.
Police say, promising a job to the woman, Sohel, 30, lured her into a deserted house and raped her taking turns with three other men, Mizan, Delowar, and Razzak.
Ashulia police station OC, Jabed Masud, said: "We arrested the two on Tuesday and are making drives to arrest the rest."
Three other girls raped in three districts, four held
In Kurigram, an 8-year-old mentally challenged child was reportedly raped on Wednesday by a rickshaw-van driver, Jenarul Islam, 24, in Bandbeir of Rowmari upazila.
Police is making drives to arrest the van driver, confirmed OC Dilawar Hasan Inam of Rowmari police station.
In Tangail, a 15 year old was gangraped by three men in Basail, Tangail, on Monday.
Police on Tuesday night arrested three local youths, Abul, 20, Amirul, 20, and Milon, 22, in for the gang rape.
"Punitive action will be taken if the three are found guilty," confirmed Basail police station OC SM Tuhin Ali.
In Comilla, a college student, Saidur Rahman, was arrested on Monday for raping a 13 year old in Homna. Sources said the minor who was a domestic help at Saidur’s house, was raped by Saidur multiple times over the last six months, confirmed OC Fazle Rabbi of Homna police station.
Two sentenced to life in prison
Two people convicted in rape cases in Jessore and Lakhshmipur were sentenced to life in prison.
The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of the respective district courts gave their verdicts on Wednesday.
The convict Aminur Rahman from Jessore was accused of raping six children at knife point, said state council Adv Idris Ali.
The other convict, Md Belal from Lakhshmipur, was accused of raping a three year old girl in 2016, said state council Abul Bashar.
