The students placed three demands regarding admission test

Students of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) in Rangpur have demonstrated to press home three-point demand over upcoming admission test and blocked Rangpur-Kurigram highway.

Tajhat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Roknuzzaman said: "The students brought out a procession around midday and gathered in front of the university's administrative building to protest."

The demonstrating students claimed the university authorities closed down the examination halls, without any reason, before the admission test, which is unlikely in public universities.

The admission test is scheduled to be held on November 11.

The three-point demand, announced by the students, said the authority should allow the admission test candidates to reside in the hostels before exam, suspend concerned authorities connected to forgery in past admission tests and cause no suffering to students.

The students said they will set strict movement programs if their demand are not met.

Later, they moved to Parker Mor area, in front of the university, and blocked the Rangpur-Kurigram-Lalmonirhat highway.

The blockade halted all traffic movement on the highway.

"We are trying to bring the situation under control," the OC added.
